| ARGYLL'S FEAST OF NATURE AT LONDON BOAT SHOW | |
| 03 January 2001 A wealth of fresh produce from the waters and hills of Argyll and the Islands will form the basis of mouth-watering dishes on offer to visitors to the 2001 London International Boat Show. Argyll and the Islands Enterprise (AIE), part of the Highlands and Islands Enterprise network, is sponsoring demonstrations by a team of top Scottish chefs, led by Christopher Trotter of the restaurant, Scotland's Larder, throughout the 10 day Show which opens on 4 January 2001. By introducing Boat Show visitors to the outstanding flavours of products such as Jura venison, Colonsay lamb and oysters from Seil Island, AIE aims to promote the attractions of Argyll as a holiday destination for people who enjoy meals prepared from fresh, local ingredients. To strengthen the link between tourism and food and drink a free draw will offer as first prize, a 6-day cruise round the Inner Hebrides on the Oban-based yacht Corryvreckan. Other prizes include: dinner for two at a restaurant in the 'Fish!' chain which sources products from Argyll; cold smoked trout from Laroche at Kilmelford; and Isle of Arran malt whisky. Christopher Trotter said : "Although ten days on stand is hard work it is very satisfying. The quality of the produce is fantastic, and a pleasure to cook with." Ken Abernethy, chief executive of AIE, sees the Boat Show as an ideal opportunity to reach a huge number of potential visitors to Argyll and the Islands. He said: "We had our first food demonstration at the Show in 1995, and we have been back every year since. Alongside our efforts to promote the freshness and flavour of our products on a national stage we have been encouraged to see a dramatic rise in the number of quality restaurants in Argyll and the Islands which source their supplies locally. "Whether you are enjoying the freedom of sailing in Argyll's tranquil seas or exploring its wild places, being served a truly delicious meal can be the highlight of your holiday." | |
