Recognition of Bill's lifetime of achievement in journalism

The winner of the Barron Trophy, which recognises lifetime achievement in journalism, is Bill Lucas, doyen of the press corps in the Western Isles, who for the past 44 years has run the Hebridean Press Service, from his base in Stornoway. The handsome rosebowl, which was donated by Evan Barron, proprietor of the Inverness Courier in 1950, will be presented at the Highland and Islands Press Ball on Friday 4 February by the Rt Hon George Reid, MSP, Presiding Officer at the Scottish Parliament.
