Praise for Awards System

A major strength of the Investors in People programme, which aims to improve the effectiveness of companies and organisations, is that it has a system of reviews to ensure that award-winners maintain and improve on their efforts. That’s the view of Mr John Alick Macpherson, depute chief executive of Comataidh Craolaidh Gaidhlig, who is presenting the awards at this year's IIP ceremony in Uist next month.

Tailoring training increases in Western Isles

Tailoring training is being expanded on the Western Isles as part of a major development backed by Western Isles Enterprise. The aim is to give local people the skills to enable them to produce basic garments to a high standard, and possibly consider setting up in business themselves.

Services for visitors in North Lewis are being expanded by a £184,500 project to renovate a local hotel, bringing new restaurant and accommodation facilities to the area.

Musicians head for Moscow

MOSCOW is the target for a group of musicians from the Western Isles next month as a cultural exchange develops between An Lanntair Gallery in Stornoway and the Moscow Caledonian Club. The group will be taking part in a weeklong trip to the Russian capital and putting on a series of performances. They expect to be part of the extensive media coverage of the event in Russia.

Work starts on £615,000 office scheme in Western Isles

Work begins next week [w/c Monday 4th November] on a major office development in South Uist which aims to bring almost 40 jobs to an area which is regarded as economically fragile. The £615,000 scheme for a site near Daliburgh School is part of the Islands-wide drive by Western Isles Enterprise to provide advance office space which is proving attractive to inward investors looking for ready-made offices, a stable workforce, and a good lifestyle.
