Caithness and Sutherland is the largest and the least densely populated of all the local enterprise company areas.

Much of the interior was well populated until the nineteenth century when hundreds of crofting families were forced from the land during the infamous Highland Clearances, many leaving Scotland altogether. But the area lost more than its people. Self confidence and drive also waned.

Now the tide has changed and today more and more young people are seeing Caithness and Sutherland as a place in which to build their future and where local and incoming businesses are investing, bringing new jobs and a new vitality to the area.

It is our aim to encourage that growing confidence, to assist in the creation of opportunities and to help all the people of Caithness and Sutherland realise their full potential.
